The Scrying Game
Yes, I own a crystal ball. I purchased it decades ago, and sacrificed creature comforts for weeks, like food, to pay for it. Years later an arrogant purist (obviously from my tribe) pointed out to me that it wasn’t crystal at all and proved it by placing it on a large light box. Sure enough, glass. I felt duped.
Ever in the quest for having the very finest of tools I went in search for a true crystal ball. I travelled far and wide, (ok, so it was approximately forty miles away) to a quirky little new-age shop that sold rare books, museum quality gems and other sparkling sundries. I ended up purchasing a 2″ in diameter sphere. It had the most incredible inclusions and rainbows.
Could I scry with it? Not a chance, too distracting. I reverted back to the blemish free glass ball and had incredible luck with it.
Another method that works exceptionally well is a scrying mirror. It’s a surface that’s been treated to be pitch black. Stay away from obsidian scrying mirrors or orbs. Obsidian is a powerful mineral and can suck you into negative thoughts and energy if used for meditation or vision work.
One of the oldest methods for those of you who want to scry but don’t want anyone to know that you are practicing “The Arts” is to use a dark bowl, black ink and water. Just pour water into a dark bowl, add a little black ink, shut off the lights and voila! A scrying bowl at night that functions as a fruit bowl by day, and no one the wiser.
Using the water and bowl, here’s how:
Have a question in mind that you want answered before you begin.
Place a piece of paper and pen next to the bowl on the table.
Be in a darkened place with diffused light. If you use a candle put it behind you so the image does not reflect into the water to distract you.
Begin your slow breathing of the 4:8 count. Inhale for the count of 4; exhale for the count of 8.
Focus your eyes on the stillness of the water. It’s ok to blink, but train your eyes to remain on the water. After a couple of minutes your eyes will lose focus and the image of the water will become fuzzy. Keep your focus on the water, do not be distracted by looking to the side or in front of you.
Ask your question.
Concentrate on the water and relax your mind.
Write any images you perceive or words you hear in your mind on the paper without taking the focus off the water. (I always have my pen in hand, and my hand on the paper when I begin this method.)
Fog, fire, candle flames, water and clear crystals can all be used as fodder for scrying. Keep a journal of your visions and let me know your progress. Anyone can scry; it’s all about the practice.
One last thing; if you are using a crystal ball keep it out of site and covered in a black cloth. Do not be tempted to pull it out and show it to others and have them handle it as a curiosity. Sacred tools should be just that….sacred and respected.
