We’ve all met them. 

Amethyst Skyrider.  She Who Walks On Clouds.  Totem Tom.  Lady Sparkle Eyes.

What is this thing with people changing their names to sound more spiritual?  I don’t get it.  Once, I was fortunate enough to be part of a very honored naming ceremony by a First American I feel extremely blessed to have met and studied with.  He gave me a name in his Lakota language.  I do not use it, or share it aloud.  The few times I have spoken it to myself, alone, when smoking the canupa I said it with muted sound.  I think it.  I honor it.  I hold it sacred.  I do not put it on a business card or advertise using it.

I’m a purist.  And a psychic snob.  There is no question about that.  Do people who now choose to have an alternative name feel more empowered?  Does the intent of healing work any less if it comes from, let’s say, an Emily Harrington? Or a Horace Schleppler?  It’s not the name people, it’s the intent.  Choosing to use a fictional name does not make you more of a healer, increase your tarot reading skills, or make you a better astrologer.  I run from astrologer’s who are named Lilith Orion Milkyway.  Not for me.  No thank you.

Sure you’re saying, YOU, have a pretty name.  Well, yes I do.  My last name is Victoria, like the Queen.  My maiden name was more awkward, hard to pronounce.  And all my former married last names were not really my names, they were his.  I took my grandmother’s maiden name as my last name decades ago.  Kept it in the family.  So, as a suggestion to all you alternate egoed energy workers:  Look to your family tree.  The Tree of Life.  If you don’t like your last name choose a ripe piece of fruit from your own family tree; a genuinely filled last name from your gene pool.  Stand strong among your ancestors so they can recognize your name and help you as Spirit Helpers.  Don’t confuse the heck out of them by being someone you’re not.

That’s empowerment.
